Shaft Flex Guide — What to Choose
As a new golfer, start with Regular (R) flex. This is the correct flex for driver swing speeds of 84-96 mph, which covers the vast majority of recreational men. Using stiff shafts as a beginner is one of the most common mistakes — it kills launch height and distance. After 6-12 months of lessons your swing speed will develop and you can reassess. All clubs in a matched set should be the same flex — do not mix. Most important: get properly fit at Golf Town before buying irons (free or ~$50). They will measure your actual swing speed and confirm flex.
Accessories — Must Have
Golf Glove
FootJoy WeatherSof is the #1 bestseller worldwide. Wear on lead hand (left glove for right-handed). Buy 2-pack.
Golf Shoes
Stability and grip during swing, especially on wet BC turf. Soft spikes. Ecco Biom, FootJoy Hyperflex, or Adidas Tour360 are solid picks.
Golf Balls
Do NOT buy Pro V1 yet. Srixon Soft Feel or Callaway Supersoft — soft feel, forgiving, cheap enough to lose without pain.
Tees
Pack of mixed heights. 2.75 inch for driver, 1.5 inch for irons/hybrids.
Divot Tool + Ball Marker
Required on greens. Most come combined. Get one on Amazon.
Towel + Groove Brush
Clips to bag. Keeps face and grip clean. Wet towel on one side, dry on other.
| Model | Price |
|---|---|
| Golf Glove | $20-30 |
| Golf Shoes | $100-150 |
| Golf Balls | $25-40/dozen |
| Tees | $5 |
| Divot Tool + Ball Marker | $10-15 |
| Towel + Groove Brush | $15-25 |
Nice to Have — Later
Rangefinder
Bushnell Tour V6 or Pro XE. Measures exact yardage to pin. Very helpful once you know your club distances. Not needed for first few rounds.
GPS Watch
Garmin Approach S62. Yardages on wrist without pulling out rangefinder. Nice upgrade after rangefinder.
Alignment Sticks
Practice only. Two rods that help with aim and swing path at the range. Great for lessons.
Headcovers
Usually included with new drivers and woods. Protect clubheads in the bag.
| Model | Price |
|---|---|
| Rangefinder | $150-400 |
| GPS Watch | $200-400 |
